Let’s Get Designing.

Most of my posts so far have been about the technical stuff we can offer you to make your hosting experience a good one. However, it’s all well and good having fantastic hosting services, but with out an actual website, it’s all a bit fruitless. This post is all about the design options you have, ranging from absolute beginner, to someone who wants to pay a developer to do the work for them.

Does Hipposerve do any Design Work?

We don’t do actual design work, but we work will a collection of web site designers all who are expert in their field. You can find out how this works, here. There are so many great design houses out there who can throw time and experience into their work to create you a stunning masterpiece. We we ourselves as the technical cogs, working behind the scenes to make sure that masterpiece stays up and running.

Having said “no”, to the above, we have teamed up with a range of designers, all who have a variety of different portfolios and skills. Designers who we can point our customers to, should they require some design work. We feel it is good for us as a host to work with designers as they can tell us current needs and we can adapt quickly to suit them, and ultimately you as a customer. Our ‘portfolio’ of designers have expertise in different areas. Some are great with the artistic style of website, whilst others can get a fantastic online shop. Others are developers and can make bespoke applications for you.

One other thing about design house, many are quite small and only have a certain capacity for work, if we have a list of designers we can trust, we can choose ones who we know have space in their schedule to take on your site.

Getting Started With Design

Many of our customers want to design their own website. This is particularly true about personal users, community users and business start-up’s who are looking to keep their costs down. We don’t blame you – when we were starting off we did the same thing!

If you are totally new to the internet we recommend you try our drag-n-drop designer Weebly. You will probably recognise the name as it is one of the top web builders out there. We have teamed up with them to offer the same array of professional features at a very reasonable price. With the intuitive interface you will have a website up and running in literally minutes. Sites can range from simple pages, to multimedia and even e-commerce sites. You can find out more about Weebly here. I actually love using it and just wish an equivalent was around when I first started online!

Unlimited Potential with WordPress and CMS tools

There will be many of our customers who are pretty web savvy and want more control over what their website looks like, without the expense of having to go to a bespoke designer. Many people turn to Content Management Systems (CMS) in order to do this. These give you a beautiful looking front end which you have control over, and an intuitive backend where you, or staff members can make website edits with ease.

One of the most popular CMS’s out there is WordPress. But there are many more and they can all be installed using a single click, via Softaculous, which is in all our customer’s cPanel.

WordPress has hundreds of different themes that can give your site an individual feel out of the box. Most of these are customisable, giving you almost infinite permutations of a website feel. In addition to themes there are thousands of plugins that give additional functionality, from built in calendars, to social media connections and even the ability to make it snow on your website at Christmas!

CMS Software does require more resources than a basic website, so we do recommend a medium to high end package if you are planning to use one.
